Its AI work is AI-assisted software delivery, with AI/works named as an agentic development platform, alongside Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud, Databricks, Snowflake, NVIDIA and Anthropic in the stack.

Size is the fact that decides fit. A firm of this scale is a procurement and security review purchase rather than a pace and seniority one, and it is a fundamentally different transaction from the boutiques above it. Its ownership also changed materially: funds advised by Apax Partners took the company private in a deal announced in August 2024 and completed in November 2024 at approximately $1.75 billion, ending its NASDAQ listing, so the quarterly financial disclosure a buyer could once read is gone.

Our verdict

Thoughtworks is the right shape of vendor for a large organization running a multi-year modernization where the requirement is scale, geographic coverage and the ability to satisfy enterprise procurement. It is not competing with the boutiques above it for the same buyer, and its position in this ranking reflects what is published rather than a judgment on its engineering. What a buyer should register is the change in what can be checked: taken private by Apax in November 2024, its NASDAQ listing and the quarterly financial disclosure that came with it have ended. No client is named in what we reviewed, no pricing is published, and no independent review profile was confirmed.
